There is a strange verse in the Bible, which illustrates what knowing and doing the will of God is. In the midst of all the do this and do that urging from the Christian leadership world ‘Be still and know that I am God’ Psalms 46:10 is indeed strange. In a context full of problems that can come from every possible situation, God assures us that He is in control. Man cannot really accomplish anything compared to God. He also cannot compete with God.

Be still

This is a command, which literally means do nothing. The will of God We reject this because we live in a world filled with activities and hectic schedules. We train our minds by highly professional and marketing ideas, so we cannot accept this to be serious. Surely, we ought to do something. Of course, God does not mean you go and sit in a corner or lie on your bed and do nothing. He does not mean irresponsibility of any kind. Then what does this verse mean?

And Know

It means Be still and know. Knowing and Doing the will of God is one of my keystone teachings to Christian believers. Pulpits, videos, tapes, CD s, and books from all denominations and Para church movements bombard us to do something. We have steps, formulas, programs, and methods for every conceivable Christian attribute and action.

In the midst of such clamor for achieving and becoming successful, God is calling us to first Know Him. You cannot do his will without knowing it. if you are always busy, You cannot know God’s will. He calls us to hush and listen. Be still and know what?

That I am God

There is your answer. Be still and know that He is God. God says there is no other God besides him. He even challenges us to compare or equal him to another. He declares that he is God, and there is none else. He thunders I am God, and there is none like me.

However, how will you know that? Do nothing about God’s role in your life. Do not run around like a busybody acting like God. Trying to plan, solve, and run your life with your puny little brains and ideas. This is not knowing and doing the will of God. Realize you cannot plan your future and security with your efforts. They will all fail. The investments can go up in smoke in a second.

The only security a man has is God himself. If you realize that, you can run your life committing it to God. Recently we have all witnessed the collapse of the financial system. People who have saved and invested many years for their retirement just lost them. The value of shares dropped to nothing overnight. Jesus said do not store up your treasures on the earth. Learning knowing and doing the will of God is your treasure.

The problems with Christians are that they follow the world in putting their trust in a failing God, which is their God and security. Get away from that kind thinking and turn to God as your real source of security and not money. Knowing and doing the will of God starts here.
